At the beginning of this year, Royal Caribbean introduced to the world the largest cruise ship ever built, the magnificent Icon of the Seas. She was the first ship in the brand new Icon Class, and is soon to be followed by Star of the Seas in 2025, and more Icon ships in the following years. These massive Royal Caribbean ships are the product of genius innovation, forward-facing ideals, and the deep knowledge of their customer base: families.
From parents with young children, to multi-generational groups - families make up a huge portion of the Royal Caribbean customers, and for good reason! Royal has solidified itself as the most family friendly brand on the market, with the Icon Class ships taking it to a whole new level. From the always popular kid's clubs, to the brand new kid-centered Surfside Family Neighborhood, to the incredible waterpark; the Icon Class ships have made families the focus. No matter what phase of life, there is something for everyone onboard these incredible vessels.
SURFSIDE FAMILY NEIGHBORHOOD | Located at the very aft of the ship, this energetic, open-air neighborhood was designed with families in mind. Here guests can enjoy the splash pad, wading pools, a buffet, a specialty restaurant, a carousel, ice cream, entertainers, kids parties, candy shops, and so much more. Families with young children can easily spend all day in this fun-centered space.
ADVENTURE OCEAN | This is the kid's club onboard all Royal Caribbean ships, and on the Icon Class ships, it is conveniently located just below Surfside. Here kids can let loose and be kids; enjoying crafts, games, movies, and playtime with other kiddos. For the teens, Social 020 is where it's at. This is the teen club where teens can watch movies, play video games, have dance parties, and socialize with other kids their age.
THRILL ISLAND | Up at the very top of the ship is Thrill Island, the fun and adventurous space for guests. Families, especially those with older kids, will love this space, as it includes the 6-slide waterpark, mini-golf, and the thrilling Crown's Edge rope course/zipline. There are plenty of loungers and spaces to enjoy the sun, and the brand new Basecamp restaurant offers casual bites and lunch options.
THE HIDEAWAY & CLOUD 17 | No ship that is meant for families is complete without an adults-only space. While the kiddos enjoy the kid's club, parents can enjoy adult socialization and relaxation at the Hideaway, or Cloud 17. Located at the very aft of the ship is the Hideaway, with several levels of sundeck space, giant hot tubs, a bar, dj, and a suspended infinity pool 135 feet above the ocean.
On Deck 17 is Cloud 17, another adult's only area with a more chill atmosphere. There is an infinity pool, plenty of loungers and sundeck space, and just a few steps away is the Lime & Coconut bar that serves up delicious cocktails!
THE AQUADOME | Another new concept introduced on the Icon ships is the AquaDome. The famed AquaTheater is located here, alongside Hooked Seafood, retail shops, an observation lounge space, coffee and cocktail bar, and Royal's first-ever food hall - the AquaDome Market. Everyone in the family will find something to eat at the AquaDome Market; with stations including crepes, asian bowls, Mediterranean options, salads, and more.
The AquaTheater hosts some of the best shows for families. The productions include professional divers and swimmers performing in the pools, acrobats suspended on wires high above the crowd, and dancers putting on a magical display incorporating lights and water. It's a fun and exciting show for all ages, and you will be back time and time again during your cruise to catch these magical performances.
