Due to increased demand, Port Canaveral has just announced plans for the construction of a brand new cruise terminal. As the cruise industry continues to grow and gain popularity, Florida has become a main entry point to the Caribbean for many cruise brands. Port Canaveral has been working hard to expand it's cruise terminals over the years, and will now be introducing a multi-user terminal in the already existing Berth 8.
“We have cruise partners with immediate needs to locate assets in Florida and Port Canaveral is where they want to be,” stated Capt. John Murray, Port Canaveral CEO. “Our ability to efficiently bring a new cruise terminal online was key to retaining and growing this important business segment that supports many jobs and delivers high value to our regional and state economy.”
Berth 8 shares a basin with the already existing Terminal 5, and is positions just next to the shipyard. Because of the design of Berth 8 for multi-purpose flexibility, there will be minimal changes that will need to be made to accommodate large cruise vessels in this space. The current linear fleet bulkhead will be extended by a little over 300 feet, and additional plans include the construction of a terminal building, and a parking garage that will accommodate up to 3,000 vehicles, and a few roadway improvements with new turning lanes and a fly-over ramp.
The timeline for this project has completion of the new facility set for summer 2026,
