Viking has been synonymous with river cruising for decades, but in the last 10 years the company has taken the plunge into ocean cruising. Since 2015 we have seen 9 ocean capable ships enter the fleet and take on the entire globe. Viking continues to promote enrichment and learning through onboard programs and incredible shore excursion offerings, but on an even bigger scale with their ocean vessels.
Due to the demands of the public as the rise in cruising continues on an upward trajectory, Viking has ordered 8 new ocean vessels that will enter service over the next five years. Here is everything we know about the future fleet that will be delivered from 2024 to 2029.
2024: VIKING VELA
Set to be released in December of this year, Viking Vela will be Viking's newest ocean ship. She will be able to accommodated up to 998 passengers, and is classified as a small ship, allowing her to enter more unique ports around the world. Vela will boast all the same venues that guests have come to know and love on the ocean vessels including the Wintergarden, Mamsen's, Manfredi's, the Aquavit Terrace, and more. She will take guests to many incredible destinations across the globe including the Mediterranean, the British Isles, Scandinavia, and North America.
2025: VIKING VESTA
Expected to enter service in the second quarter of 2025, Viking Vesta will be an exact copy of Vela. She will also be a smaller ship with a guest capacity of 998 and measure only 784 feet in length. She will begin her career sailing throughout the Mediterranean from ports such as Rome, Istanbul, Venice, and Barcelona, among others.
