Icon of the Seas is one of our favorite Royal Caribbean ships to date, and has changed the perception of what we all thought was possible to do with a cruise ship. Icon hails as the largest ship at sea, weighing in at an astonishing 248,663 gross registered tons, and measuring a cool 1,196.7 feet long, and 20 decks high. She is a behemoth on the water- offering endless activities, dining, and entertainment that has thus far impressed all who have set foot aboard.
Because of the innovation of this impressive vessel, Icon of the Seas has been named in Time's list of 2024 World's Greatest Places. While other names on the list include resorts, hotels, cities, and destinations, Icon stands apart as being a revolutionary vacation on the water!
At Harr Travel, we had the pleasure of sailing on Icon several times, and have seen in-person just how incredible this ship is. Not only do we love the size and the range of options onboard, but we appreciate the attention to detail, and incorporation of everything guests love about Royal Caribbean- all brought together to create one fantastic vacation experience. Here are a few of our favorite things about Icon:
SURFSIDE FAMILY NEIGHBORHOOD | The Surfside Family Neighborhood is located in the aft on Deck 7, and is the family fun zone onboard! Kids and parents alike can spend the whole day there, enjoying the splash pad, wading pools, carousel, the Surfside Eatery for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, quick grab-and-go options at Surfside Bites, and of course a Sprinkles soft serve station. In addition the Arcade is located here, along with some retail, the new Pier 7 restaurant, and Lemon Post- the spot for a delicious cocktail or kiddo mocktail!
ENTERTAINMENT | The entertainment onboard Icon is top-notch, with several different entertainment venues putting on incredible shows throughout the cruise. Head down to Absolute Zero, the onboard ice rink, and watch in awe as the performers put on a spectacular ice show. See the first ever Wizard of Oz performance at sea in the Royal Theater; and for a thrill, watch the stunning acrobatic dance shows at the AquaTheater, located in the brand new AquaDome neighborhood.
THE CROWN'S EDGE | Experience the heart-pounding activity of a lifetime as you walk out and off the edge of the ship during this part skywalk/part ropes course/part thrill ride experience. You and your fellow adventurers will make your way, one by one, out onto suspended platforms, and over the edge of the ship, where the last platform will drop out from under you, sending you back to the ship via zipline in this ultimate thrill.
CATEGORY 6 WATER PARK | One of the first things you will notice when you set eyes on Icon is the looming waterpark at the very top of the ship. Category 6 offers 6 fear-inducing waterslides, including 2 raft slides, 2 racing slides, the first open free-fall water slide at sea, and the tallest drop water slide at sea! The best part is that the entire waterpark is included, no reservations required, and the slides are as good if not better than most waterslides you will find on land! Category 6 is so impressive, it truly feels like an extension of the amazing Thrill Waterpark on Perfect Day at CocoCay.
THE HIDEAWAY | This is the adult's only section, located above the Surfside Family Neighborhood at the very aft of the ship. It is very private, as the only access is stairs leading down from Thrill Island. Here there are several hot tubs, a tiered sundeck space, a bar, and the first suspended infinity pool at sea!
These 5 favorites barely scratch the surface of everything that Icon has to offer. This ship is truly "iconic", and deserving of being named as one of the top places in the world!
