Experiencing the Thermal Suite on Norwegian Viva

Within the cruise industry, few cruise lines do the onboard spa as well as NCL; especially the Thermal Suite experience. While it is an American company, NCL was founded in Norway, and the Scandinavian tradition of cold plunges mixed with warm saunas to enhance blood flow and promote relaxation is continued on the Norwegian vessels, and intensified on the new Prima Class ships. There is no better example of this than on Norwegian Viva, NCL's newest ship.

Thermal Suite Spaces

The Thermal Suite experience at the Mandara Spa on Viva is nothing short of luxurious. From the marble stairway leading down to the hydrotherapy pools, to the hot stone loungers overlooking the bow of the ship, every space within the Thermal Suite Journey is even more beautiful than the space before it, and will have you moving closer and closer to ultimate relaxation.

THE CHANGING ROOM | The first stop within the Thermal Suite experience is the locker rooms. The locker room sets the tone, and the men's and women's changing rooms on Viva are perfection. From the complimentary robes, to the marble and brass design of the rooms, and the dark shower- each and every detail give you the lavish pampering you are looking for in a spa experience.

HYDROTHERAPY POOLS | Your journey starts with the Hydrotherapy pools, and Viva offers two- one warmer, one cooler. The trickling sounds from the floor-to-ceiling water feature along the entire length of the room enhances the tranquility as you begin your Thermal circuit.

AROMATIC STEAM ROOM | The circuit continues with the aromatic steam room, a large space with seating all around, and steam infused with essential oils such as eucalyptus, peppermint, and lavender. Here you can sit for a while and breath in the steam, allowing your body to relax completely in preparation for the continuation of the Thermal Suite experience.

CHARCOAL SAUNA | This dimly lit sauna has walls lined with charcoal, and also has the traditional water bucket you can ladle onto the stove for a bit of moisture in the air. The charcoal sauna will open up your pores and draw out any toxins within, removing impurities from the body.

FINNISH SAUNA | The traditional Finnish Sauna sits opposite the Charcoal room. Here there are 3 levels of seating where you can lay out your towel, pour a bit of water on the coals, and allow your body to completely relax.

EXPERIENTIAL SHOWERS | Enjoy Swiss shower heads from the ceiling and walls, steam, and blue and red light for a relaxing shower experience.

SALT ROOM | Relax on the beautiful marble bench that wraps around the Himalayan salt-lined room. The Salt Room will help boost the body's immune system, increase circulation to the skin, and ease stiff muscles, along with many other benefits.

INFRARED SAUNA | The infrared sauna is a ritual many people partake in, as the benefits include muscle recover, boosting the immune system, muscle pain relief, and so much more. Having the addition of the infrared sauna on Viva allows folks to continue their health and fitness journeys while onboard.

ICE ROOM | While there is no classic "cold plunge" pool on Viva, the Snow grotto onboard is the best place to get that cold shock to help with blood circulation. Inside the snow room is seating, and a bowl where snow is dumped into, so you can rub it all over your body, and then go out and enjoy a warm sauna, plunge pool, or just relax in the relaxation zone at the front of the spa.

RELAXATION ZONE | Located at the very front of the ship, the relaxation zone is the space to relax, read a good book, and enjoy the peace and serenity of the spa. Lining the floor-to-ceiling windows are the hot stone loungers, where you can let your muscles relax and enjoy the incredible views off the bow of the ship. Throughout the space are various lounging options from traditional extra-comfy lounge chairs, to daybeds and more. You can grab a citrus-infused water from the hydration table, head forward to the bow, and enjoy hours in tranquility and silence in the relaxation zone.

Booking a Thermal Suite Pass

You can book your Thermal Suite pass for the full cruise when they become available online in the weeks leading up to your sail day. Norwegian will also hold back a few passes for onboard purchase, so we recommend if you haven't booked prior to your cruise, heading to the spa on day one in order to secure a pass. Day passes may also be available to purchase onboard for specific days (typically popular port days, generally not sea days), so if you are interested in a one-day pass to the Thermal Suite, head to the spa as soon as you board to get information on when the day passes might be available. Day passes may also be available for purchase prior to the cruise in some cases.
