On August 27th, Royal Caribbean announced that it will once again partner with Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku to construct a 4th Icon Class ship, set for delivery in 2027! Following the incredible success of Icon of the Seas in January of this year, as well as the excitement and anticipation around Star of the Seas release in 2025, and a 3rd ship in 2026, it is no surprise that Royal will be delivering its guests even more ways to vacation with a 4th Icon Class ship. The agreement signed also includes options for additional ships in the future, so we can expect even more iconic surprises to come!
Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group said in a statement: “Building on the incredible momentum and market response to the launch of Icon of the Seas and the excitement for its sister ship, Star of the Seas, coming in 2025, we’re thrilled to join with Meyer Turku once again to expand our roster of Icon Class ships and continue our future growth plans. Since its debut, Icon has changed the game in vacation experiences and exceeded our expectations in both guest satisfaction and financial performance.”
Meyer Turku has built 21 ships for Royal Caribbean over the past 28 years, and will be continuing this long-standing relationship with the brand for the rest of the Icon vessels. The ship builder has delivered the best-in-class ships, and Icon of the Seas truly showcases how incredible this partnership has been and continues to be.
Speaking of the new order, Tim Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku said in a statement, "This order is an important milestone for the future of shipbuilding in the maritime network in Finland. With Icon of the Seas, our team, consisting of the shipyard and partners, have built an extraordinary ship in respect of naval architecture, energy efficiency and customer experience. This is yet another recognition of the professionalism of our personnel and of our leadership in the maritime industry's innovation and green transition. The options underline the strong outlook of our order book."
Royal has yet to announce the name of the 3rd and 4th Icon Class ships, as well as any details on the projects; but we will be sure to update as more information comes in.
