The beautiful Norwegian Joy, launched in 2017, will undergo extensive enhancements in January of 2024. NCL will be updating, changing, and expanding specific spaces throughout the ship. At Harr Travel, we are excited to see the changes coming to Joy, and believe the enhancements will add even more to the cruise experience for our guests!
What Changes are Coming with the Update?
Norwegian's goal with the update is to enhance the onboard guests experience with popular offerings, including expanding The Vibe Beach Club, a new Thermal Spa, adding 24 new staterooms, and redesigning Three Bedroom The Haven Premier Owner's Suites.
THE VIBE BEACH CLUB | The adults-only Vibe Beach Club will be expanded with this renovation, adding private cabanas to the space. On a ship with so many thrills, we are excited to see the expansion of the quieter, adults-only space!
THE THERMAL SPA | The Galaxy Pavilion and Laser Tag will be removed, making way for the new Thermal Spa. This change makes sense, as the Galaxy Pavilion location is where the Thermal Suite is on sister ships, so this update will bring Joy more in line with Escape, Bliss, and Encore. The Thermal Suite is always a huge draw, and has been greatly missed by our Harr Travel guests on Joy, so this change will be highly anticipated! The new space will provide hot tile loungers, a sauna, ice room, and aromatic steam room, and their wellness experiences will include everything from a relaxing massage to IV Drip Therapy.
NEW BALCONY STATEROOMS | One of the changes includes adding an addition 24 Balcony Staterooms. Sadly NCL has decided to repurpose a portion of the Observation Deck in order to accommodate this change. While the observation deck is one of our favorite spaces in the industry, and we will be sorry to see it shrink, we know the new staterooms will be beautifully designed.
THREE BEDROOM THE HAVEN PREMIER OWNER'S SUITE | We are very excited about the announcement that the The Haven Premier Owner's Suite will be expanded to three bedrooms! There will be two of these suites onboard, and will include three and a half bathrooms, a fully renovated living room, a master bedroom and a new separate dining room overlooking the forward facing The Haven Horizon Lounge. To make all these changes NCL is combining the current existing Owner's Suites with the 2 Bedroom Family Villas next door, as well as repurposing the Haven Library for the new dining room spaces. We have found that The Haven Library has been underutilized in the past, so this is a great way to repurpose this space!
After the Update
Joy will resume sailings post dry dock in February 2024, when she embarks on an 11 day Transatlantic crossing from Southampton to Miami. In March 2024, she will begin week long Caribbean voyages from Miami, before sailing from New York to Bermuda for the summer!
Overall, here at Harr Travel we are very excited to see the updates that are coming to Joy. As everything Norwegian does, we know the refurbishments will be beautiful and luxurious, updating spaces to give NCL guests the very best experience!

We agree that it's sad that the Joy's Observation Lounge will go through some shrinkage to make way for additional cabins. Actually, we think that NCL is making a BIG mistake in doing this. Note for NCL: When we search for cruises, we always look at deck plans, online videos thanks to Harr Travel and plan on where we will be spending our Sea Days. Because of skin cancer issues, not all of us can hang out on the various decks and worship the sun anymore. So, we love air conditioned open spaces with lots of glass and watch the waves roll by. We won't even consider going on a ship that lacks this space. We were on th…
