Great Stirrup Cay has long been one of Norwegian Cruise Line's most popular cruise destinations- a beautiful private island in the Bahamas. Guests have been enjoying the serenity of the sandy beaches for years, and now Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is set to expand the space with one highly anticipated upgrade.
Since the beginning of GSC, ships have dropped anchor offshore, with tenders being utilized to bring passengers to and from the island throughout the day. Just this week, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has announced plans for the construction of a pier at GSC. This addition to the island will be greatly appreciated by guests, allowing them to disembark easily, on their time, and start their day of fun on the island immediately. Previously guests would have to wait every 20 minutes or so to catch a tender, and with a pier for the ship to dock at, passengers will be able to get on and off throughout the day if they wish, without having to worry about lines or tender times.
Harry Sommer, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. spoke about the new project, saying: “We are excited with the addition of a new pier at Great Stirrup Cay to support our increased capacity in the Caribbean and multiple ships to call on the island, enhancing our guest experience and bringing seamless and reliable access to our private island year-round.”
Ground will be broken this summer, with completion slated to be in late 2025. The project will cost a total of $150 million, and the new pier will be able to accommodate two large vessels of NCL's current and future classes of ship.
