On nearly every cruise ship you will find the quintessential Observation Lounge. This lounge space sits in the crown of the ship, curving around from port all the way across to starboard, with a variety of comfortable seating options, plenty of natural light, killer views, and a bar serving delicious cocktails. Royal Caribbean took this concept and turned it right on its head with Icon of the Seas, creating "The Overlook"- an iconic take on this classic cruise ship venue.

The Overlook is located in the brand new AquaDome neighborhood, and sits right behind the AquaDome Theater. Because of the placement, the floor-to-ceiling windows continue up and up, several decks high, creating the incredible dome that Icon is known for. The amount of natural light pouring in is astonishing, making the Overlook the most relaxing indoor space on the ship, by a long shot.

THE OVERLOOK BAR | The Overlook Bar is a sculptural, circular bar, and the main focal point of the space. You can grab a bar stool, or take your drink to one of the many lounging spaces, or up to the theater to watch the Aqua Show.

THE OVERLOOK PODS | These unique lounging spaces are the standout feature of the Overlook. These pod-like spaces offer comfortable booth seating and small tables, so you and your group can take your drinks and relax while watching the world sail by. Some of the pods are elevated with stairs leading up to them, making them an extremely private space to enjoy a drink with friends. These are free to use, and are first-come-first-serve.

LOUNGE SPACES | Throughout the space are many unique and comfortable spots to relax. The pods are a more private option, but other relaxation spots include daybed style loungers, comfy chairs with ottomans, and large curving sofas throughout.

Just up the steps from the sunken Overlook is the Rye & Bean bar. This is a coffee bar serving delicious espressos and lattes during the day, and a cocktail bar in the evening, another great option for drinks. The AquaTheater is just behind the Overlook, so you can head over and catch the show, or simply enjoy the music while you relax. For a small snack, head to the AquaDome Market and grab a crepe or gyro to take back to the Overlook and enjoy while watching the incredible ocean views.

The Overlook has proven itself to be a dynamic and relaxing space, and a very contemporary and modern version of the traditional Observation Lounge you would find on other ships. It's a great spot to bring a good book, or just grab a drink with friends while taking in what are arguably the best views on the ship.
