What is the "Infinite View Balcony" on a Royal Caribbean Ship?

When Royal Caribbean unveiled their newest Star Class suite, the Solarium Suite, on Utopia of the Seas in July, the space had an upgraded enhancement that we haven't seen before in traditionally panoramic-style suites: an infinite balcony. This is a newer feature that we are beginning to see on cruise ships, and are becoming more and more popular. But what exactly is an "Infinite View Balcony" on a Royal Caribbean ship, and is it the best option for you?

What is an "Infinite" Balcony?

Upon first glance, the Infinite Balcony stateroom may look like an ocean view room with giant floor-to-ceiling windows; but upon further inspection, you will soon realize this is not a typical ocean view cabin. By the window you will find balcony style chairs facing the view, and a set of doors or curtains that can retract, dividing this small sitting area from the rest of the cabin.

With the push of a button, the top half of the window will raise up, making this small sitting space into a balcony. Just shut the retractable doors, and you will feel as though you are outside on your own balcony, enjoying the fresh sea air. If you prefer to have more space inside, all you have to do is shut the window, open the doors, and this small balcony is now part of your indoor space.

Is the "Infinite" Balcony Right for You?

The "infinite" balcony has had many mixed revues across the industry, but those you love them, truly LOVE them.

If you are a cruiser who prefers to have a lot of natural light in your cabin and access to fresh air, but prefers a bit more space inside, and Infinite Balcony might be for you, because you can have all of those things in one cabin.

Families with young children also love the Infinite Balcony option because keeping the window closed is a safe option with the kiddos, and allows for more indoor space to spread out.

Final Thoughts

While some folks prefer the traditional style balcony, the Infinite Balcony does have a lot of fans, and is a remarkable innovation that we expect to see more of on future cruise ships. Being able to have more indoor space that can convert to a balcony if you wish gives you the best of all worlds, so you can have the most comfortable and relaxing cruise vacation possible.
